This may seem like common sense but I have heard the same comment over and over through the years.
“I don’t do that exercise because I’m so weak, I can’t do much.”
My response is typically “that is exactly why you should be doing it!!”
A conversation with a client went in that direction. She said she didn’t like doing the bike because her legs start to burn 3 minutes into a workout. As we talked about changing the resistance, I explained that the burn happening so quickly is because her legs are weak. Her body is telling her what she needs to work!
It was always common to talk about low back issues and instructing to strengthen the abs to help with the back. While that is not bad advise, the other part of it would be to make sure to do some exercises to strengthen the low back. Again, your body will tell you what you need to do.
Countless times I have had conversations with women especially that they don’t do strength work because they are so weak and can lift much. While I understand not wanting to do something because you aren’t good at it, when it comes to strength work, you have to do it. No way around that!
Our bodies will tell us so much if we just listen to them.
Until next time…#eatthedamnsalad
